All about Hydroponics
Hydroponics is defined as a form for cultivating plants and gardening. The various pollutants that we are exposed to in soil often do not go away even after several years. The well being of people is so important that researchers have been prompted to look for ways to minimize plant exposure to mediums that carry pollutants. Hydroponics is one such way wherein the plants do not use soil as a medium where they are planted.
Soil Is Not Important
In hydroponic gardening, researchers have found out that soil is actually just a reservoir where nutrients are stored for the plant’s consumption. The reservoir is just a place where the plant’s food is stored. So you see that this reservoir is not necessary if the plant, in some other way, can receive the needed nutirents. Through hydroponic research it has been discovered that the nutrients contained in the soil dissolve when they come in contact with water so that plants can absorb them easier. Hydroponics has done away with the need for soil for some plants.
Terrestrial plants, though usually found in soil, can actually survive without soil when they have access to the proper nutrients that are essential to their growth. Hydroponics also has some medium that may be more suitable for a healthy human life. These mediums are mineral wool, perlite and gravel. These mediums are for there to provide stability to give the roots something to hold on to.
In hydroponics the important factor is that the nutritional needs of a plant is filled by using the mineral solution. Almost all plants can grow without soil as long as the nutrient based solution is present. A specially formulated solution is given in doses to the growing plant to meet the nutirional needs and help it thrive. Not all plants can tolerate their roots being exposed to water all the time so some nutritional solutions
In gardening through hydroponics are given at certain intervals.
Hydroponics has certain advantages such as cultivation in a clean environment with the fuss and mess of soil. Hydorponics reduces many soil borne diseases that target produce and plants which is another advantage to hydroponics. For places that are barren such as the desert hydroponics offers a solution for cultivating plants. Greenhouses can be made to provide better crops that have nutrients provided to them directly without soil since most plants do not need soil to grow.
