Garden Basics: Decor

No garden is ever fully complete unless it has some type of decor included in it. In fact, many gardens actually get started because there was decor in place first. Someone may have gotten a garden bench or porch swing as a present for instance, and they loved sitting outside on it so much that they were inspired to put flowers, plants and other shrubs around to enhance their entire outdoor experience.

And that’s really what gardening is all about. It’s a celebration of mother nature, God’s gifts, beauty, serenity, peacefullness, color, texture, and so much more. So having a garden without some basic decor items is not really making the most of the garden you have.

With that said, let’s look at some basic garden decor that you might like to consider adding in your own garden…

Garden Furniture – There are many types of garden furniture to choose from for your particular garden space. A garden bench or swing is almost a must for most gardens though, because this is what allows you to sit outside and simply enjoy the gardens you’ve been cultivating.

If you don’t have the room for a bench or swing though, or you simply like the style of chairs instead, there are many garden chairs to choose from as well. Benches, swings and chairs come in all shapes and sizes, plus they come in a variety of materials too. You can get garden seating which has an arbor or trellis attached to it for instance, so you’ll have plants and vines climbing around right next to you.

Wooden seating looks quite natural in most gardens too, and teak wood garden furniture is strong, sturdy, lasts quite a long time, and it’s beautiful too. If you’re not the type to have wooden garden furniture though, or you’d like a more formal and polished look, try some of the wrought iron pieces instead.

Garden Sheds – A garden shed can be both decorative and functional for your garden, plus they come in a large variety of sizes and styles these days. There are very small garden sheds which seem more like storage boxes than sheds, and these tend to fit nicely onto small porch or patio areas. If you have room in your yard or garden though, consider getting a beautiful shed which matches the design of your garden. If you have a nice wildflower garden for example, you might choose to put a pretty rustic looking shed towards the back of that garden area.

Garden Carts – Garden carts are not essential, but they can be quite useful for gardens of all shapes and sizes. These are especially handy when you don’t have an actual garden shed, or if your shed is not large enough, because they make it easy to keep all of your everyday gardening tools and supplies together in one place. They also tend to come on wheels, so it’s easy to move it around with you while working in the gardens.

Other Decor – There are plenty of other things you can decorate your garden with, and these include statues, water features such as a waterfall or fountain, bird baths and houses, garden gnomes, walkways, arbors, trellises, lanterns or lamps, and more. So if you haven’t started decorating your garden with various accents and decor yet, consider looking around and adding something new this season.
