There is hardly any home decor and home or company untouched by the beauty of flowers and decorative plants. Indoor gardening is not necessarily an art, but rather part of interior decorating as it takes little time and effort. There are however people who have pushed the concept of indoor gardening a lot further, coming to actually grow vegetables inside. Such projects depend on artificial lighting systems, which does not allow weeds to proliferate as much as sunlight. Plus, the gardener has a direct influence on the soil, in the absence of the weather influence.

Indoor gardening depends on containers or pots made either from plastic or from ceramic materials. Ceramic materials are preferable because plastic gets too hot to be safe for plants. The preparation of the soil poses most challenges for indoor gardening. Different or equal proportions of ingredients need to be added, such as sharp coarse sand, peat moss and native soil.

Indoor gardening could also use a combination of sand, silica, forest mulch and perlite. The conditions change if your vegetables grow in hanging containers because you have to keep them lightweight normally relying on some premixed soils. From this point of view, indoor gardening is a bit more expensive as the costs for the soil mixture can be an issue for the average budget. But, once again, it all depends on the extent you give to indoor gardening.

Other than soil, another aspect that requires your attention is that of the containers. Proper drainage and aeration are a must. In order to water the plants without any problem, you should leave some two inches between the soil level and the margin of the container. Outdoor gardening could provide you with a good pattern for the activity because you can implement similar routines. Yet, since there are no weather changes, you can grow plants directly from seeds.

Indoor gardening makes beautiful use of herbs and cherry tomatoes for decorative purposes. They look nice, they are very attractive and the fragrance is great. Chives, mint and rosemary make indoor gardening a lot more pleasant. The arrangement of shelves, tables and plant stands can further enhance the beauty of the garden.
